The Reappearance of Me

Can’t believe it’s been over a week since I last posted. I hadn’t really thought about it until I read Kristen’s Wednesday post, Frankenfriends & Zombie Tweets. It’s basically about writers who are there one minute on social media and gone the next. And then back again. While I didn’t think I was one of the examples who inspired the post, I did sort of feel like a distant cousin of those guys.

When it comes to social media and blogging, I am not consistent. I try, but things come up. People might say I’m making excuses or not working hard enough, but the only person who knows the truth about what’s going on in my life is me. Some weeks, I’ve got plenty of time to express my thoughts, say hi to friends AND write. Other weeks, I’m lucky if I turn the computer on. It’s not something I do on purpose. I’m always working on ways to balance it all out. It’s the ever evolving process.

Now, here’s where I think I differ from the people Kristen was writing about.

When the frankenfriend resurfaces, it’s usually to promo something. Something that costs money and he might be looking to YOU to help sell his crap.

I’d never do that.

I barely promo my blog posts. The one tweet that goes out when it first posts is it. If I go back on social media again, it’s just to talk to my friends.

I’ve gone some stretches where I’m a ghost, but when I poke my head up, all my buddies are there as if I were never gone. So, I must be doing something right. Even people who I don’t chat with a lot or I’m just starting to get to know are like, “Hey! Good to see you.” I suppose whatever impression I leave on people is a good enough one that they’re glad to see me when I’m around.

I like that. A LOT.

So, to the few, the happy few, thanks for sticking with me.

  1. There one minute and gone the next, you say? I don’t know who she could have been tal—

  2. *high fives* Yes, I’m with you on that. RL overwhelms, and I’ve got three blogs I try to maintain, so…inconsistent is my MOTTO! …er. Yeah. I might want to change that. 😉 I do like your differentiation between the huckster and those of us who just, I don’t know the word, flit? Flit makes it sound too ephemeral. We are *here* after all. Ghost bloggers? Hmmm. *ponders*

  3. I agree that sometimes life just happens and you dissappear. I am the same way with twitter. Generally I use it to try and connect with people, not to promo. Like you i tweet once about the blog and that’s that . I think it takes time and practice to balance out social media with your work, but I think the way you are going about it is good and if you are genuine when you are there its more forgiveable when you’re gone. genuine connections cause you to be less disposable and more rememorable then those that merely use it as a marketing tool. 🙂

  4. You are a bright spot in my day 😀

  5. There is a sincerity about you, Mr. Mocete, that keeps you in the memory banks. 🙂

Seriously, I’ve seen people that tweet and blog regularly, but when it comes to connecting, it feels very…structured. Robotic. Like they doing their required percentage of socializing.

Thanks for being, well, you. 🙂

  6. I miss you when you’re not around, but I’ll always be here when you get back. Because you’re awesome and stuff.

  7. I do not believe there is one formula that works for everyone. Write when you have something to say . . . otherwise, it is useless prattle. In my opinion. And building followers (at least in sheer numbers) may require more frequent posting but I would prefer that folks look forward to, rather than dread, reading my stuff when it lands in their in-box. I find it hard to keep up with the 3X weekly bloggers. Really hard.

    Good to see you back.
