My Goal: Finish revising my friggin’ book already!
The road to my goal: 250-500 words on workdays and 500-1000 on my days off.
The sometimes detour when I get stuck: Plot the next book.
Man, organization is tough. Since I finished Eat That Frog and read part one of Kait Nolan’s efficiency series, I’ve been working on getting into a better writing routine. So far, okay. I did some writing, not everyday though. (Got close to 1000 words) The chapter I’ve been working on has had ups and downs. This is one where my MC starts putting pieces of the puzzle together. In the original draft, the answer seemed to come from a Basil Exposition type source. Not good. I’ve got it plotted better and am going to try to wrap it up today.
As the great and wise Shiznit says, “Don’t focus on the past, concentrate on the now. Always move forward.“Something like that.
Besides that, based on a comment from my buddy Jen Kirchner, I plotted out a short story just because. So now, between revising, I’ll write that and eventually, you guys can read something by little old me.
That’s one of the reasons I picked Invincible by Pat Benatar as this week’s inspirational song. It’s the theme song for 80’s masterpiece The Legend of Billie Jean. Can I tell you how upsetting it is that this movie’s out of print and NOT available on Netflix? Maybe on another post. We’re talking about the song.
It’s the classic 80’s rock song, guitars heavy with chorus and reverb and drums so crisp, they sound electronic. And Pat Benatar has a beautiful voice. I get pumped when the chorus kicks in. “Stand up and face the enemy, It’s a do or die situation, We will be invincible!” Getting this book done might not be a TRUE life or death situation, but thinking of it that way keeps me focused. Maybe you too. At the very least, it’ll get you interested in the movie and we can campaign to have it released on DVD. “Fair is fair!” That is all.
