Hi I’m Broccoli ROW80 Update

My goal: Devote an hour a day to writing fiction.

In my last update I mentioned how long days at work threw me off my schedule.  I had every intention of catching up and was off to a good start.  In two hours on Thursday, I wrote 1000 words.  I probably could’ve done more, but it was late and my eyes were tired.

Friday was my birthday and I spent the day talking on the phone with family and online responding to birthday wishes.  And let me say thanks to everyone that wished me happy birthday.  I sort of joked about it in a FF on twitter and was surprised at how many people noticed.

Now comes Saturday and after checking email, I had no desire to write.  It’s a fun thing that I LOVE doing, but it still takes brain power and it wasn’t in me.  What DID sound appealing was to continue watching the sixth season of Buffy that I started earlier in the week.  So that’s what I did.

As a sponsor, I feel like I should be setting an example, but I also want to be honest.  I totally gave in to laziness.  Still, I’ve got two positives so you don’t completely lose faith in me.

My living room got a much needed straightening up while I watched TV.  There’s still more to do, but it doesn’t quite look like the place was ransacked anymore.

First thing this morning I wrote.  Not much, but it got the ball rolling and I plan on doing more today.  I’m shooting for finishing the chapter I’m working on.  That’s another 1000-2000 words I’d have to write.

Here we go!

  1. I think watching Buffy is a noble thing to do. And speaking as a sponsoree, I think you’re setting a fine example. So much of the writing discipline, (as I’m learning more daily), is about working everything else so we have the time, energy, and space to write. You did get words down, which counts and here’s to knowing you’ll have the succcess you want next week.

    • You know, I tweeted about watching Buffy all day and someone told me I wasn’t slacking, I was researching. Made me fell all pro or something. Buffy really has the power to connect us all. Let us meditate on that.

  2. Buffy is always a valid excuse. Just sayin’ . . . .

Everyone has off weeks, as long as you don’t give up then you’re doing well. Just keep going like this was your best week ever, that’s all you can do. Hope you enjoyed your birthday. 🙂

  3. Buffy is definitely research! I like to have a birthday week, if I can, so I think you did great on your writing goals!:) You know what you want to accomplish this week and I think you’re on track.

  4. Adding some fun into your week, that’s setting a good example. It’s also something I forget to do, but learning to add it from the ROW80 folks. 🙂

Anyway, love this post and glad you had a Happy Birthday!

  5. A belated Happy Birthday! Sometimes we just need time to rejuvenate.

  6. Hey, birthday boy. I like the way you handle it when you don’t meet your goals. You don’t beat yourself up over it. You look at the good things in your life and know that you’ll get back on track. No whining allowed. LOL

I took off on my birthday, but I knew I was going to do it. I planned it. :0)

I hope you had as great a birthday as I had!

  7. I try to look on the bright side, no sense dwelling on what I can’t change.

I’m glad you had such a great birthday, mine’s been good too.

  8. I think it’s amazing that your attitude is one that allows you to just pick up and move on…no self-abasement, no giving up. And sometimes we need that little break just so we can go on.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  9. A belated happy birthday to you. 🙂

I think down time is so important – particularly for creative folk. We have to recharge, and Buffy is a great way to do just that. Unfortunately, sometimes “recharging” looks like “lazy as hell” to the uninitiated…so it’s our job to inform them. 🙂

  10. Well, you may not have written everyday, but you did relax, and get some picking up done. Now, when you go to write, you will be refreshed. Happy belated birthday!

  11. I totally feel you about being a bad sponsor. I’m just falling by the wayside with so many things, but I’m so tired, stressed, and burned out that I can’t push myself to do anything more than what I’m doing… which isn’t much.

But hey, at least you’re living room is clean and you’ve written something! I began cleaning my apartment last night a little and felt better myself…

    • It’s amazing what a clean room does to your psyche, right?

I just changed my goal because I was getting annoyed with my lack of progress. At least the progress I want.

I hope things ease up for you so you’re not so tired, stressed and burned out. That’s the triple threat.
