‘Twas The Night Before ROW80: My Goal

Or morning depending on when you’re reading this.  I wanted a catchy title.  Anyway . . .

This is exactly what I needed.

Being organized is not something that comes natural to me.  I know I can do it, but sometimes, okay most times, I need help.  Yay for Kait Nolan!  She’s created a great new writing challenge called A Round of Words in 80 Days.  The reason why it’s so great is it’s designed to work with whatever stage you’re at with you’re writing and YOU define the goals.  Give the link a check for the full details, there’s still time to sign up.

So, on to my goal.  It’s pretty simple; I want to become a more organized writer.  It’s the difference between calling this a hobby or a career.  I’ve made some progress, but I want to become much more focused, so I’ve broken my large goal into bite size pieces I can handle easier.

The first piece is to get on a writing schedule and what I’m going to do is set aside an hour a day to write.  This writing is only for my fiction.  Other types, such as blogging, will not be included in this hour.  I won’t worry about word count so much because it might take longer than an hour to make my quota at the speed I write.  I also don’t want to rush because of a word count.  If I spend an hour and only come up with one good sentence, that’s better than 1000 words of crap.

As that gets easier, I’ll add another piece and another until I reach my main goal.  I probably won’t be able to fit it all into round one, but that’s what round two is for.

  1. Best of luck with your goals, Andrew. I’m also on an organisation buzz. I’m a messy writer, feels like the storylines are flying around my head and hitting me in the face. 🙂 I sort of wish I had specified a time per day rather than a word count too but at least I’ll know for round two!

    • Thanks Claire. I proved to myself that I can meet a word count based on doing NaNoWriMo. Now it’s really important for me to up the quality per word. I don’t expect it to be perfect, but better than needing a complete rewrite.

I’ve got inspiration and motivation all saved up for tomorrow. I’ll throw some your way to get you to your quota.

  2. Being organized is good .Sitting down for at least an hour in the morning before doing anything else including turning on the computer is what helps me. Now if I could just talk myself in to getting up an hour earlier before the rest of the household gets up. It helps to have quiet time to write. Good luck with your writing.

    • Thanks Robin. I tried to pick something very easy for me do. Accomplishing this will do a lot to get me motivated to add more challenging things and become a more productive writer.
