Whoa! #ROW80 Snuck Up On Me

Totally forgot today was the start of round four. But I’m here now. Hooray!

Had a hard time coming up with goals. Writing my debut doesn’t seem practical since I’m not ready for that yet and I don’t when I’ll be ready. There are a few things I know I need to do to get there, so that’s what I’ll be concentrating on.

1. I want to do more reading, whether it be on craft or novels in my genre.

2. Writing (obviously) but no word counts or a schedule because I want to use it to practice what I’m learning. So, I may read something and then try to apply it to a scene I’m working on.

There’s probably other stuff that goes into The Well Rounded Author, but these will be my focus for ROW80. I used to have a writing process, but it didn’t deliver the quality I wanted. I’m sort of starting from scratch and figuring out my method which is difficult while I keep learning new things. But as long as I continue to progress, the frustration will be worth it.

I did the first two rounds of ROW80 and came up all sorts of ideas to jazz up the updates. This time around I’m going “Just the facts” style. So, if they’re really boring, at least I won’t have wasted much of your time. See how your old pal Andrew takes care of you?

  1. I found with the last Round that my goals were tweaked as I went along an awful lot, so maybe starting with something vague and then whittling it down as you work will be more effective. Either way, as long as it’s something, that’s…well, something! I like the idea of reading through a craft book and then working with it for your own craft. So the best of luck to you! I’ll be interested to see where it goes!

  2. Last round was my first but I loved it. Didn’t hit all my goals but I learned a lot. Gonna try to be more reasonable about all my goals this timea round. Good luck to you on yours.

  3. I like the idea of study to application that you’ve decided to use, great plan and goals. I wouldn’t worry too much about a “process”, we are always learning and growing as writers and so moving forward with what we have in hand in best rather than waiting for the perfect system to arrive and make us famous.

All the best over the coming week, Andrew :)

  4. The more you write the better you get. So keep practicing. It’s great that ROW80 isn’t always about word count goals. The goals can be anything you want them to be. Good luck with learning for this round!

  5. Reading and applying is great! Good luck with your goals and I look forward to getting to know you during round 4 :)
